Itinerary
1st Day – Madrid / Burgos
Departing from Madrid we go to Aranda del Duero. Stop for lunch. In the afternoon we travel to Burgos. Check in at the hotel. Gourmet dinner. Accommodation.
2nd Day – Burgos / Najera / Logroño
Breakfast at the hotel. Visit to the town of Burgos, including the Cathedral in a gothic style, built in the XII century and whose exterior has two remarkable towers; and also the Cartuja de Miraflores. After concluding the visit, lunch. In the afternoon we leave to Rioja. Arrival to Nájera, court and the birthplace of kings, the capital of the kingdom in the X and XI centuries. Visit to the Monastery of Santa María la Real. On to Logroño, which name comes from “Gronio” Celtic root meaning beam and refers to his birth on the River Ebro. The story turned Logroño, into the capital and heart of the Autonomous Community of La Rioja, a perfect example of interbreeding between ancient and modern, walking visit to the city. 3rd Day – Logroño / Monastery of Valvanera / San Millan de la Cogolla / Abadia de Cañas / Logroño
After breakfast at the hotel we begin our journey which will surely leave an indelible mark on.
We start by visiting the Monastery of Valvanera, where the patron of Rioja is kept, reason why this is a place of Marian pilgrimages. It was kept locked during the time of Leovigildo, but in this century it was rebuild and is runned by Benedictine monks, it is situated in a place of great natural beauty. The image of the Patroness, whose origin lies in the XI century is Romanesque. We go on to San Millán de la Cogolla, where we will visit the Monastery of Yuso. Lunch along the way. We continue to “Abadía de Cañas” dated from the XIII century, nowadays the Saint Mary Convent. Gourmet dinner. Accommodation.
4th Day – Logroño / Rota do Vinho / Briones / Haro / Sto .Domingo De La Calzada / Logroño
Breakfast at the hotel and departure to Briones one of the most beautiful places in Rioja, with buildings dated from the XV until the XVIII centuries. Our journey continues to Haro, the most important shopping center of the wine region. Besides its world famous wineries, other highlights are the City Hall and the Palaces of Paternina and of de la Cruz, the old town popularly called “Herradura”, the “Judiaria” and the Baroque Palace of the Counts of Haro. Visit to a winery and tasting. Lunch will take place in the old town, during the route of “tapas” bars. In the afternoon we travel to “Santo Domingo de la Calzada”. Visit to this village Jacobean, and the Romanesque Cathedral of the XI century. After concluding the visit return to Logroño. Gourmet dinner. Accommodation.
5th Day – Logroño / Peñafiel / Valladolid
Breakfast at the hotel. Departure to Aranda del Duero and Peñafiel. Visit to one of the most important wine cellars at Ribeira del Duero, tasting included. Lunch. In the afternoon we continue to Valladolid. Check in at the hotel. Gourmet dinner. Accommodation.
6th Day – Valladolid
Breakfast at the hotel. Visit to the city of Valladoid, the first capital of the Spain kingdom, along its streets some important characters of Spanish history and culture were seen in ancient times, as Queen Elizabeth I, the Emperor Karl, Philip II or Christopher Columbus. Some of the most important pages of Spanish literature were written here, Miguel de Cervantes, José Zorrilla, Jorge Guillen, Rosa Chacel, Francisco Umbral, Jose Jimenez Lozano or Miguel Delibes. Visit to the National Museum del Colegio San Gregorio. Visit to a wine cellar. Lunch. Free afternoon. Gourmet dinner. Accommodation.
7th Day – Valladolid / Segóvia / Avila
Breakfast at the hotel. Afterwards departure to Segóvia. Free time to visit this city, which highlights are the Aqueduct, a superb piece of roman engineering; the Cathedral and the emblematic building of the Alcazar, built on a solid rock. Lunch in a typical Mesón, to eat the famous “cochinillo. In the afternoon we will continue towards Ávila, birthplace of Santa Teresa. It has a walled enclosure of 2 km, the best preserved in the world. There are nine doors, including the Door of Alcázar and the Door of San Vicente, near the Basilica with the same name, in a romanesque style. Gourmet diner. Accommodation.
8th Day – Avila / Madrid
Breakfast and departure transfer to the airport.
