Quinta Nova de Nossa Senhora do Carmo & Quinta do Panascal
We start our morning with a visit to the stunning Quinta Nova de Nossa Senhora do Carmo, located near Pinhão and are integrated in the Demarcated Region of Douro since its inception in 1756. Over time, the whole heritage of the estate has been carefully preserved: the 19th century manor house, presently a wine hotel, the baroque style chapel, the orchards, the watermill and the wine cellar, dated from 1764. During this visit, guests will have the opportunity to learn in detail the wine production and also visit the underground cellar. In the Harvest Season, the possibility of participating in this activity is also available in this Estate. Lunch will be served on the premises. After lunch, guests will proceed with the visit to the Quinta do Panascal, a beautiful property overlooking to the Tavora River founded in 1822. Today, the company is in a leading position, as a producer of high quality Port Wines, aged in cask and Vintage wines. From their vineyards came the extraordinary grapes that produced the Fonseca Vintage Port 1994 (considered the best wine in the world). The reputation of the Quinta do Panascal dates from the 18th century when the wines produced on the banks of the Tavora River were considered among the best in Portugal. Quinta do Panascal suffered a re-planting program from 1987 to 1995, and is now one of the largest estates in the Douro valley.
